Prahlad Jani, a holy man or fakir, 76-year-old, who has baffled doctors by saying he has not taken in food or drink for the last 65 years, at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday, 21 November 2003. Jani, a fakir ascetic who lives solely on alms and lives next to a temple in the west Indian city of Gujarat, attributes his ability to a gift from the god Amba Mata. During his 10 days stay in the hospital, he was monitored 24 hours a day with cameras.He was provided 100 millilitres of water daily – about one half glass – so he could flush his mouth. The water he expelled was measured and doctors determined he was in fact not actually drinking it. dpa
